Tuesday June 7th:
Coach Scott and Isaac arrive in New Jersey and get settled in.
Wednesday, June 8th:
Coach Lissa Arrives in New Jersey
- Checked out the race course, observed high winds and heavy rain, drove around Princeton and Philadelphia (only an hour a way) and checked out the campuses of University of Pennsylvania and Drexel with coach Lissa. Lots of fun today. Tomorrow we start practicing and preparing
Thursday, June 9th:
Official Practice row, Regatta check in, regatta meeting – 5:00 pm
-Practice canceled due to high winds. Course is closed.
We found our boat and are rigging it as best we can and hoping for the best.
Now we hang out at our place of stay and wait for the regatta meeting
-The meeting was grand. They discussed all of the ways that things could go wrong if the weather acts up. It was great! For now the schedule stands as it is but there are concerns of high winds tomorrow and heavy storms on Saturday and Sunday.
Friday, June 10th:
The Men’s 1x is the second event.
8:48am – Heat 3, Lane 6 – this year there are 23 entries so their will be 4 heats. First placed finishers go on to semi-finals. Everyone else will go to reps.
A note on reps. It is short for repechage which is French for second chance. It is the rowers second chance to get into the semi-finals.
- We were able to stick Isaac in the boat this morning before launching and test out the rigging on the boat. It felt good but when he went to race the oars felt a bit heavy. He hung with the pack for the first 500 meters but lost his steam and slid to the back. It was a close fight with 5th at the line but he lost by a bow ball. The hope is to have another shot during reps. but that darn wind is showing its ugly head so we will see.
The weather has dealt us a pretty tough hand this year. With a high wind forecast the rest of the weekend the officials have canceled the reps and will be moving straight on into semi-finals and finals for Saturday shortening the event drastically and ending our run. 1st - 3rd from the heats will move to semi's and 4th will go to a C final. 5th and 6ht placed finishers are done for the weekend. It is a pretty tough blow having gotten no practice in an unfamiliar boat, but we will have to take it and train hard to come back next year.
Saturday, June 11th:
Updated schedule: - Semi-Finals for 1-3 from the heat
Evening - Finals
Sunday, June 12th:
Isaac found the finish line
Isaac and really short dad at the 1500 meter mark
