Head of the Port of Sacramento

Current News: This will be the first we go to the Head of the Port as a club.  The course has one long gentile bend to the port side in it, followed by a straight shot through a bridge to the finish line and is pretty well protected from the wind. Very straight forward and easy to get a good experience on.

Itinerary (things may change by the time of the race, keep checking back for up to day info):

Depart Saturday by 12:00 noon (unless they are ok with us going for a row on Saturday in which it will be an 8:00 am departure, I will let you know)

Eat on the way down

Meet at hotel by about 8:00pm

Lights out at 10:00

Depart hotel by 6:45.

Coxswains meeting at 7:00ish

Racing starts at 8:30

Depart by 2:00pm

Map of parking and viewing

2016 Head of the Port (some of this is last years info but I am betting it will be very similar to this year - I will post current info when they announce it)

Parking for HOP is different than past years. There is no parking near the venue nor at the viewing area. Instead, we have secured parking approximately 2 miles southwest of the RCRC Boathouse and all participants/spectators will be shuttled.  RCRC will also set up a viewing area where spectators can watch the regatta (located at approximately 500 meters from the finish line).  Shuttles will run every 10-15 minutes all day between the Parking Lot, the RCRC Boathouse, and the viewing area.  There is also a dedicated hard path to ride a bike or walk the entire course that is accessible from the viewing area.  There will be port-o-potties available at the viewing area.

There will be a marked drop-off location for athletes and hospitality tents at River City Rowing Club.  Please drop off and then proceed to the parking lot.

Directions to RCRC Boathouse, Rower Drop-Off, Buses, Car-toppers, Trailers

The boathouse address is 2901 Industrial Ave. West Sacramento.  However, if using GPS or map apps, please use 3035 Industrial Blvd. West Sacramento.

From Sacramento and Points East: Take Capitol City Freeway/Business 80 West to West Sacramento. Take the Harbor Blvd. exit. Turn left onto Harbor Blvd., heading south to Port of Sacramento. Turn right onto Industrial Blvd. Drive one-quarter mile then turn left through the open yellow gate (just west of main Port entrance).

From Davis and Points West: Take I-80 East to Capitol City Freeway/Business 80. Take the Harbor Blvd. exit in West Sacramento. Continue onto Harbor Blvd., heading south to the Port of Sacramento. Turn right onto Industrial Blvd. Drive one-quarter mile then turn left through the open yellow gate (just west of main Port entrance).

Directions to the Parking Lot and Shuttle Stop

The Parking Lot address is 3771 Channel Drive, West Sacramento.

Follow the directions to the RCRC Boathouse above, but instead of turning into the open yellow gate, continue down Industrial Blvd. approximately .8 mile.  Turn left on Parkway Blvd. and travel approximately .4 miles, then turn right onto Seaport Blvd.  Travel another .4 miles and turn left onto Channel Drive.  The parking lot is at the end of the street.  Signs will be posted and RCRC volunteers will be on hand to help direct parking.

If walking to the RCRC Boathouse, DO NOT trespass through the log yard to the staging area.  Everyone must follow the road around the log yard to the staging area.  We strongly recommend waiting for the shuttle bus.

Race viewing and bike path

The viewing site is located on the south side of the turning basin off of Industrial Blvd. Shuttles will transport spectators from the Parking Lot and RCRC boathouse to the viewing area. There is a path to ride a bike or walk the entire course.  Shuttles will run from this location to the River City Boathouse every 10-15 minutes beginning at 8:00am.  North Border Tacos food truck will also be parked here from8:45am to 1pm.

**Please note – if you are viewing the race from the Palamidessi Bridge (Industrial Blvd./Lake Washington Blvd.) –DO NOT run across the street to view the other side of the bridge when races are coming through.  This is a very busy road and cars and semi-trucks travel fast (>50 mph) and drivers have limited vision.  The road is not blocked off during the race and the West Sacramento Police Department will be citing violators.**

Spectators may also view the finish of the regatta at the Barge Canal Recreational Access.

The Barge Canal Recreational Access Park is located at 2100 Jefferson Blvd.  To get to the park, follow the directions to the RCRC boathouse, but instead of turning right onto Industrial Blvd, turn LEFT onto Industrial Blvd.  Follow Industrial over the bridge and continue to Jefferson Blvd (two stoplights after the bridge).  Turn left onto Jefferson and then at the third stop light on Jefferson turn left into the Barge Canal Recreational Access parkway.  THE SHUTTLE WILL NOT DROP OFF/PICK UP FROM THIS LOCATION.

Junior Hospitality cars may drive down to unload food and items, but must return to the Parking Lot.
